You’, featuring the smoldering Penn Badgley is met with mixed reactions – Times of India
The first season premiered in 2018 and season four is already making waves. The ratings up on IMDb are a high of 7.7/10. Season four has already premiered and netizens are now busy watching the earlier seasons, the reason why it has made a return to the Top 10.
Previous seasons have also seen the show win several awards and nominations. It won the ELLE style awards in which the international star category award went to Penn Badgley, the star of the show.
You is based on Caroline Kepnes’ best selling novel of the same name. Viewer miriklein2003 gives us a quick round up of Seasons 1 and 2. He says: “Season 1 was okay and entertainable… Season 2 is more mature, thrilling and the story is not that cheesy.”
Another reviewer, supermanfan-13 who has put up the review on February 6, having binge-watched the previous seasons says, “You is every bit as good as people have said it is and is pretty addicting once you start it. I’ve been putting off watching this since it first came out but finally found the time and now I’m mad I waited so long… The thing that surprised me the most was how much humor is in it. It made me laugh at life more than I expected.”
Davish_wulf-1 rounds up, “All 3 seasons delivered, with enough twists and last episode chaotic situations, that left me thinking, “how the hell is he going to come out of this” on the last episodes.”
Rottentomatoes.com says the hunter becomes prey is You’s fourth season, but, “Penn Badgley’s sardonic performance continues to paper over most lapses in logic.” In other words, the show becomes illogical, but Penn’s acting manages to cover up the anomalies in the plot.
Here are some critic’s views. The first one from Laurensarner of New York Post, “Season 4 is a mixed bag, but even when Joe’s shtick risks getting stale there’s still plenty of fun to be enjoyed by fans of the series.” Chris Wasser of Irish independent says that, “this icky, talky and relentlessly soapy thriller is every bit as annoying as you remember, yet more addictive than it’s ever been.”
It is clear now that people are watching it for Penn Badgley and not so much for the plot. Amanda, a viewer, says of Season Four, giving a rating of only 0.5 stars out of 5, “It is absolutely awful. London accents are so bad that it is unwatchable. A real shame.” And as critic Brian Lowry of CNN sums up, “The Netflix hit feels dangerously close to jumping the shark, having become a bit too cute for its own good… You has survived its fourth season, but that rope now looks seriously frayed.”
