This Friday, Sidharth Malhotra arrived on the digital screens with his latest offering Mission Majnu. The spy thriller drama directed by Shantanu Bagchi and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, sees Sidharth Malhotra in the role of an undercover agent sent to Pakistan to get details of their nuclear plans. Ever since the trailer of the film released, there had been comparisons drawn out with Alia Bhatt starrer Raazi, and now the actor has finally reacted to it.

Based on the novel Calling Sehmat, the 2018 film Raazi saw Alia play an undercover spy sent to Pakistan to get out their military secrets. The similarities between her character and Sidharth’s in Mission Majnu has given rise to many comparisons, but the actor is unfazed by it. He has rather welcomed these point of views.

Sidharth Malhotra on Mission Majnu comparisons with Alia Bhatt’s Raazi

During a recent interview with Film Companion, the actor said, It is never a bad thing if people are trying to find a reference point for a film. It (Raazi) is a good film. It doesn’t feel like it (the comparison) is such an alarming thing. Yes, the elements on the outer periphery seeing the trailer might look similar. It is in the same decade (1970s), has similar elements, but I think the experience is completely different. It is only fair to speak to people after January 20 (Mission Majnu’s release date), once they see the film… I think it is fair (the comparison), and we will have a better conversation when the film is out and we could discuss it. Comparison with a good film is always welcome, it is not a bad thing at all.”

Mission Majnu started streaming on Netflix from January 20, 2023, and the film has garnered good word of mouth in the reviews. At Bollywood Bubble, we gave the film 4 stars out of 5. A snippet of the review read, “Overall, Siddharth Malhotra starrer Mission Majnu is engaging and sparks curiosity in all the right parts. You will be intrigued to see what will happen in the next scene and that’s what a spy thriller demands. On the other hand, the terrific performances by Sidharth, Kumud Mishra, Sharib and others only make it an interesting watch.”
