‘Love Today’ closes doors on Manish Girish Shah; a learning lesson for Bollywood- Exclusive – Times of India

Recently, Phantom Studios (Shrishti Arya-Madhu Mantena-Sheetal Talwar) and AGS Entertainment announced the Hindi remake of the Tamil Sleeper Hit ‘Love Today’. And while the news made headlines, ETimes has learned that Phantom Studios and AGS Entertainment exclusively possess the rights of the modern love drama. Now what is this exclusivity and why is it being harped upon in the trade circles from where the buzz has emanated?
ETimes has it that the original producer of ‘Love Today’ has a secured deal with Phantom Studios and AGS Entertainment that they will not sell the dubbing rights to anybody. It has happened in the past that a certain Manish Girish Shah who is said to be flexing himself to secure pots of money from producers, by scaring them that he will run the dubbed version- in some language or the other- on his YouTube channel before the release, has come into play and Bollywood producers have had to pay up.

Last week, there was also a buzz that the South industry was thinking of passing a Non-Cooperation Movement against Manish Girish Shah. We had called up the Tamil industry to learn that no such move was in the offing as Manish Girish Shah was only doing a business by investment, but an official from the Telugu industry had hinted to us that they are contemplating a Non-Cooperation Movement against Manish Girish Shah. An official from Kannada industry said that they will look it up in their diary before committing to a quote but later did not revert.

Let’s see if the deal of ‘Love Today’ paves the way for Hindi films from not getting over-budget, no thanks to Manish Girish Shah.

The South biggie ‘Love Today’, which hit theatres in November 2022, starred Pradeep Ranganathan himself (in his acting debut), Ivana, Raveena Ravi, Yogi Babu, Sathyaraj and Raadhika Sarathkumar in lead roles. The film’s music and score was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, with cinematography handled by Dinesh Purushothaman and editing done by Pradeep E Ragav.

The cast of the Hindi version of ‘Love Today’ is being finalised.
