Waheeda ji was asked to change her name
Speaking on The Invincibles with Arbaaz Khan, Waheeda ji shared, “Toh mein aur meri mummy we were in a shock. Agar tumko koi bole ‘Arbaaz mujhe tumhara naam nahi accha lagta hai tum badal do’ (So me and my mom, we were in shock. If someone tells you ‘Arbaaz, I don’t like like your name so change it) Excuse me? It’s my own name. Mere parents ne diya hai (My parents gave it to me) Why should I change my name? Toh hum dono ka wahi reaction tha (So, we both had the same reaction) Change the name? For what?”
The veteran star further added, “Magar aap ka naam bohot lamba hai. Uspe kaafi behas hui. Fir bole aap jaiye hotel. Hum soch ke batate hai. Wapas aaye toh bole acha theek hai aap rakh lijiye apna naam. Maine kaha ek minute jara rukiye (But your name is too long. There was a lot of debate on that. They said you go to the tell. We will think and tell you. When he came back he said ok don’t change your name. I said wait a minute) Now, what happened? Humne kaha ek clause usme dale. Raj Khosla ne Guru Dutt ko dekha, Guru Dutt ne dekha aur fir woh aise karke baith gaye. Toh maine kaha ye Raj Khosla bolte hai Guru Dutt toh producer kam director jyada hai. Who toh kuch bolte hi nahi hai (We said put a clause in it. Raj Khosla looked at Guru Dutt, Guru Dutt looked at him and sat like this. So, I said this Raj Khosla says Guru Dutt is director more than a producer. He never says anything) I don’t know what to do (laughs)”
Waheeda ji added, “Toh maine kaha ek chota sa chaar line ka. Costume mujhe acha nahi laga toh mein nahi pehnungi. Magar suppose if a character demands. Maine kaha you have toconvince me ke the character demands to wear a certain kind of costume. Toh bole acha. (If I don’t like the costume, I won’t wear it. But suppose if a character demands. I told them then you have to convince me that the character demands to wear a certain kind of costume. They said ok)”
