Dalljiet Kaur and Shalin Kaur were once one of the most loved TV couples. Dalljiet Kaur and Shalin Bhanot met each other on the sets of Kulvaddhu. They married in 2009. In 2015, Dalljiet accused Shalin of domestic violence and filed for divorce. Now, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble for ExtraOrdinary You, Dalljiet opened up on her divorce with ex-husband Shalin and how she dealt with it.
Being divorced has some kind of stigma attached to it in our society and talking about it, Dalljiet said, “Divorce was a huge thing when it happened to me like they were like ‘kaise hogi, zindagi kaisi hogi, Jaydon kya bataega’. I said ‘Kya bataega. I mean, what is there to say? He’s coming to a happy home, a very fulfilling home but the stigma is as real as it gets.”
The actress was 24-25 when she tied the knot with Shalin in 2009. While talking about noticing the red flags in the relationship, Dalljiet said, “For me, there were many things I wanted in my life in terms of being happy. So, red flags nahin samaj mein aate when you’re in that age. Today, if you tell me I know what I do not want, I might not know what I want, but I know ye bye bye, ye bye bye, like that is a thing for sure. So, today at this age I can say that. But at that age, everything was like very la la la for me. So, I was not thinking or making judgements so I give that thing to myself.”
Furthermore, when asked how divorce changed her life, Dalljiet stated that being financially independent is important ‘for a girl especially’. Talking about herself, Dalljiet shared, “I was independent. I was already doing a lead, I was a winner of Nach Baliye. I was doing two leads at that time, ek Star One pe aata tha aur ek Star Plus pe aata tha. I was doing two leads at that time for both the channels. My life was exactly like that mein char ghante, paanch ghante soti thi. So, I was always like that. I was independent but I got married and then obviously like I said I’ve always been the married person in my life. So then I kind of let the independence take a backstep. The family and everything obviously came right in front which I thought again my age probably where my independence, financial took a backstep.”
Recalling the tough times, she said, “When I divorced, I was not financially in a great place because I just delivered, I had left obviously like pregnancy left so 2-3 saal ka gap agaya. So, it was difficult for me to think and I was 86 kgs.” The actress added that she worked hard on herself to get back to acting. She also revealed that she struggled a lot financially.
Further, Dalljiet also stated, “For my marriage to start crashing down was probably the worst feeling to accept. Even after divorce, it took me a lot of years to come to terms with it. It took me years to come to terms with the fact ki ye toh tut gaya rishta.”
The ex-couple continue to co-parent their son Jaydon.
