Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee struggles at the box office; Ekta Kapoor says, ‘He is the most reliable, dependable actor to work with’ – Times of India
Akshay Kumar’s latest film Selfiee opened to disappointing response at the theatres. The film recorded lowest opening for an Akshay Kumar film. Netizens questioned Akshay’s choice of films as he has had back-to-back flops lately including Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan and Ram Setu.
Reacting to this, producer Ekta Kapoor came out in his support and wrote a strongly worded message praising Akshay. Taking to Instagram Stories, Ekta wrote, “Akshay Kumar is the most reliable, dependable actor to work with!!! Depressing tabloid culture of bringing someone down to highlight his lows is a hugeeeeee low in itself!!!” She added the hash tag #insensitive.

Selfiee, which was one of the most anticipated films of 2023, earned merely Rs 2.5 crore on Day 1.
Speaking to ETimes, producer Girish Johar said that Selfiee’s lacklustre performance has brought unwarranted gloom. “Selfiee’s start has truly sent shock waves within the fraternity. It has two major stars Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi and despite doing promotions across the country, the opening is not up to the mark. It is much below than what anyone expected. It is truly strange why the audiences were simply not interested. Everyone is introspecting,” he said.
